| Cattle Boyz Gourmet BBQ Sauce was introduced to the Canadian marketplace in 1998.
The Ternes Family had raised prime Alberta beef for over 70 years and developed their family BBQ sauce into a gourmet quality product. It wasn't until the early 90's that the Ternes family offered the product to the general public from their butcher shop in Calgary's downtown Eau Claire Market. At this point it was produced and bottled out of Joe Ternes' own kitchen.
Karen Hope, now Managing Partner for Cattle Boyz Foods Ltd., was the Marketing Director of Eau Claire Market when she came across Joe, his butcher shop and his savory sauce. "I used to buy it for myself and to give away as a hostess gift," she said. "People who tasted the sauce were always asking where they could buy some."
In 1995, Karen left Eau Claire Market to start her own business, The Marketing Edge Inc., which successfully operates to this day.
By 1997, she was back working with Joe, marketing the sauce. Her first big hits were the TSC Shopping Channel and then Costco Canada. By the end of 1998, over 50,000 people had tried the sauce and were telling their friends. A great start to something big. In order to prepare for their impending success, the two entrepreneurs became partners in a new company called Cattle Boyz Foods Ltd.
